Accolades at the FreeFrom Awards 2019
March 26, 2019We are getting used to positive recognition at Bute Island Foods. But we are always delighted when our products receive any award, and colleagues Jan Crichton and Kay Manvell were honoured to represent the company at last week's FreeFrom Awards 2019. Following the news that we had been nominated, Jan and Kay attended the ceremony along with nearly 300 other guests at the Royal College of Physicians at the FreeFrom Food Awards popular annual networking party.
Our winners for 2019 were our own branded Smoked German Style Sheese, which won a Silver Award, and our Red Leicester Style Slices and Cheddar Style with Jalapeno and Chilli Sheese, which both won Bronze Awards.
Of our Smoked German, the judges liked 'the shape - great to have variation on a freefrom cheese board. Not normally a fan of smoked cheese but this has really sophisticated smoked flavour and a creamy texture.' Our Red Leicester was described as having a 'great smell - different to other cheeses in Free From. Good colour and no nasty aftertaste! Glossy finish when melted - it retains its texture well.' And finally our Cheddar Style with Jalapeno and Chilli was especially appreciated by one judge, who 'really enjoyed this - plenty of flavour but a good creamy texture. I'd love to make chilli cheese scones with it...'.
The FreeFrom Food Awards, the UK's only industry awards for free from foods, started in 2008 by FoodsMatter and FreeFrom Foods Matter to encourage innovation and celebrate excellence in the freefrom food industry. The awards are entirely independent, supported by sponsorship and entry fees only. Our photo shows Jan and Kay enjoying the canapes at the awards event.
