Here are some of the most common questions we get asked about our company and the Sheese range of products. If there’s something you’re unsure of and can’t see it in the list below let us know and we’ll be happy to answer your questions!

Are your products allergen-free?

The Food Information Regulations specify the 14 allergens to be aware of. Only our Creamy Sheese range contains soya, otherwise our products are free from all 14 allergens:

  • Gluten
  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts
  • Celery
  • Mustard
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Sesame
  • Fish
  • Crustaceans
  • Molluscs
  • Sulphites
  • Lupin
What is the cholesterol content in your products?

Our Sheese products are all chloresterol free.

Do you have products without dairy ingredients, lactose or which are casein free?

Yes, our factory is 100% animal and dairy free. Our products are all suitable for a vegan diet and for individuals that are lactose intolerant.

Does Sheese melt?

Yes, all our new products are made with coconut oil and melt beautifully. This includes our slices, blocks, grated and wedge varieties with the exception of our Hard Italian style (which isn’t meant to melt!)

Can I cook with Sheese products?

Yes, you can replace traditional cheese with one of the Bute Island Sheeses when preparing any one of your favorite recipes. You simply have to pay attention to the cooking time and conditions as traditional cheeses differ compared to cheeses with vegetable oils in terms of their behaviour during the cooking process, with plant-based cheese products taking a little longer to melt than their dairy counterparts.

Should Bute Island Sheese be stored in the refrigerator?

Yes, most of our products must be stored in the refrigerator. Although our new Ambient temperature Creamy Sheese is a very stable product and will keep out of the refrigerator.

Can I freeze Sheese products?

We do not recommend freezing any Sheese products as they will undergo alterations in texture as well as in their other organoleptic features.

Where can I find the expiry date on your products?

The BB date is generally printed on the bottom of the package (unless otherwise specified by a customer which will sometimes position it on the rear label) and on the side of the lid of the soft Creamy Sheese.

Can I use Sheese products past the expiry date?

No, Sheese products must be consumed by the BB date printed on the package in order to maintain all their organoleptic features.

Is MSG added to your products?

No, Bute Island does not add a monosodium glutamate (MSG) flavour-enhancer to any of its products.

Do your products contain corn ingredients?

Yes, some of our products contain maize starch (corn starch)

Are your products Kosher certified?
+

Yes, all Kosher Certified – except for the 200g block & 180g slices Cheddar Style with Jalapenos & Chilli (however, the Melting Sheesy Jalapeno Bake is Kosher though).

Are your products GMO free?

We use soya in our Creamy Sheese range, and this comes from an IP source (identity preserved). The IP system is used to trace the soya from seed, all the way through the production process, and is used to ensure that the soya is GMO-free as well as the best quality. Our Creamy Sheese can only be made from the highest quality, clean, dehulled soya bean seeds.

Does Bute Island Sheese contain any animal products or by-products?

None of our products contain any animal products or by-products. All of our products are certified vegan.

How long will Sheese products stay fresh?

Once opened, we recommend consuming Creamy Sheese within 7 days and the block Sheese within 10 days.

Do you use palm oil in your products?

No, none of our products contain palm oil.

Do your products contain artificial ingredients or preservatives?
+

Our products are free of preservatives and artificial ingredients.

Do you use Titanium dioxide in your products?

No, this is not something we use in our products.

Can I consume Sheese products if I have coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance?

Yes, our Sheese products are all gluten free. We require gluten-free ingredients practices from our suppliers and commit to a gluten-free environment in our manufacturing practices.

How do you pronounce Sheese?

We pronounce Sheese as “Sheeeese” – Just like cheese, but Sh instead of Ch.

Do you export your products?

What can I do if I'm unable to find Bute Island products in a store near me?
