Bute Island Foods win Viva! awards

This year Viva! were celebrating their 15th anniversary, and organized a very enjoyable Moroccan themed

dinner in Bristol. The event was well attended, and everyone was treated to some great entertainment,

with speeches from Viva! founder Juliet Gellatley, Heather Mills, Michael Mansfield QC,

Wendy Turner Webster, Sarah Jane Honeywell & Gary Webster. It then came time for Viva!

to present various awards for only the 2nd time in 15 years, our congratulations go to all the winners.

SHEESE - SOON TO BE EVEN TASTIER!

At Bute Island Foods we continually strive to offer the best possible Dairy-Free alternatives to cheese

and cream cheese. So over the past few months we have been busy in the test kitchen & have improved the texture

of all the hard Sheese so it is now even closer to Dairy cheese. Don't take our word for it though - try it for yourself!

BUTE ISLAND FOODS NOMINATED FOR BEST VEGAN CHEESE

Bute Island Foods have been nominated for "Best Vegan Cheese" in the 2009 Veggie Awards, which is the worlds

largest survey of vegetarian/Vegan people, products and places. Last year 30,000 people voted and this year that

number is expected to rise to 40,000. Voters have the chance to win fabulous package prizes, including a Tropical

Vacation Getaway and a His/Her Urban Goodie Bag.

The Sheese team were once again delighted to attend this year's Bristol Vegan Fayre. Even in the current

economic crisis people from all walks of life ventured out to sample an array of Vegan delights, or to learn more

about some of the animal rights groups, even just to see some of the great entertainment on offer.

For the Bute Island Foods team the highlight of the weekend was receiving the Vegan Environmental Award for

Best Vegan Manufacturer. It means a lot to us all to be recognized for the hard work we put into supplying the best

Vegan alternatives we can, and we look forward to supporting events like the Bristol Vegan Fayre

& other Vegan events across the country whenever possible. Finally a big thanks to Tim, Charlie, Yaoh, and

everyone who helps to organize - Probably the Best Vegan Fayre in the world!

SHEESE AT THE ANIMAL AID FAYRE IN LONDON

Thanks to everyone who came to the Fayre in Kensington, it was a well organized and busy event.

As always we received an excellent response from nearly everyone who tasted our products & people

were generally surprised at the diverse range of flavours available. Not all flavours are available from

your local shop, but most shop keepers are happy to buy in a flavour if you request it or alternatively try

one of the online distributors on our Suppliers page who stock most flavours.

eIn the Great Taste Awards 2008 organized by the Guild of Fine Food, some 4800 products were entered and after

24 days of expert judging Bute Island Foods received a Great Taste Award Gold 1 Star for the delicious Garlic & Herb

BBRISTOL VEGAN FAYRE 2008

This year's Bristol Vegan Fayre can surely only be bettered by the B.V.F 2009, the event seems to be going from

strength to strength with an estimated 14,000 people attending over the weekend. Thanks go to Tim, Poppy

and the whole B.V.F 2008 team who continue to organize probably the best  Vegan Fayre in the world.

The whole Sheese team enjoyed the weekend and even managed to have a look round some of the other

stalls in-between serving a near continuous stream of customers. Particularly enjoyable was the scrummy

B'Nice Ice Cream from Beanies, and Love Foods ready meals.

Also in the Vegan Environmental Awards Bute Island Foods came 2nd in the Best Dairy Alternative just losing

out to the delicious Booja Booja Ice-Cream by only 1.5%.

SHEESE ON TOUR UPDATE

Thanks to everyone who came along to The Incredible Veggie Roadshow in Nottingham,

it was as always a very enjoyable day. The next stop for Sheese on Tour is

the London Vegan Festival on Sunday the 7th of September, look forward to seeing you there.

SHEESE IN LONDON

This year Sheese exhibited for the 1st time at the Natural & Organics Show in Olympia (Kensington).

The show was for 2 days Sunday 13th April and Monday 14th April, it was a well organized event and we made

some very exciting contacts. Sheese and Creamy Sheese received a very positive response

from Vegans and animal eaters alike.

SHEESE IN MANCHESTER

26th January 2008

The North West Vegan Festival was organised in memory of Neil Lea,

and was held in the lovely setting of Sacha's Hotel (Manchester). We had a really

 inspiring response from all the folk that visited our stand, and we all enjoyed the day.

SHEESE AT THE LONDON VEGAN FESTIVAL

What a fabulous day the four of us had working at the London Vegan Festival!

It was so well organised - and for only £1 to get in - it was no wonder

so many people attended. We had a really inspiring response from

all the folk that visited our stand.

Kensington Town Hall is such a great venue, and the staff were all

friendly and helpful. (please scroll down)

Lots of great stands to check out and loads of great info, as well as

all sorts of Vegan treats and goodies to sample and buy.

It was really nice meeting so many people from all over the world and

to realise that there are so many folk like us, passionate about caring for animals.

Thanks to everyone who came and said hello, to the organisers, and for all

your warm encouragement. We hope to see you all next year at this special event.

SHEESE COMES TO BRISTOL VEGAN FAYRE

' The Clan'

1. On the 7^th of June, the 'Sheese clan' journeyed south through the hills of Scotland,

2. down through the north of England and on past the midlands, bathed in sunshine

3. to set up our stand - for the very first time - at the Bristol Vegan Fayre.

5. From the moment the gates opened on the Saturday morning, we were mobbed.

6. We couldn’t get the Sheese cut up and put on the crackers fast enough - or

7. spread the Creamy Sheese and fill the trays with our bite sized offerings, before

8. the whole lot was whisked off into smiling, hungry mouths.

9. None of us suspected that it would be that busy, but what fun we had!

1. It was so nice for us to meet the folk who enjoy Sheese, and to see

2. some of the delighted faces of people trying Sheese for the first time. The feedback was

3. so incredibly positive, which really mirrored the attitude of the whole event.

1. Over 10,000 people attended the Fayre over the weekend. There was delicious healthy food

2. from all over the world; samosas, falafel, hummus, and great olives - as well as healthy Vegan

3. fast food, like burgers and hotdogs.  If you have a sweet tooth there were amazing ice-cream and

4. to-die-for smoothies, chocolate, cookies and melt-in-your mouth chocolate brownies.

5. It was a veritable feast. The music and entertainment was great and added to the good feeling

6. emanating from the place.(''The Beat' were awesome by the way).

3. of strawberry jam on the top to finish - and voila - a mini Sheesecake)

1. We all had a fantastic time. On the long drive home we felt tired but happy 

2. in the knowledge that there are so many people out there working

3. to make it better for animals - and having fun doing it.

SHEESE ON TV

The BBC's answer to America's Jay Leno - Jonathan Ross - recently came across

our advertisement for Sheese in Viva! magazine (www.viva.org) and asked to

feature it on his late show, 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross' (21st April 2006).

"What caught my eye," said Jonathan, "was a brand new food on page 22...

Sheese. It's a non-animal, non-dairy, non-GMO, non-lactose...

non-cheese cheese."

(Sheese has now appeared 'LIVE' on stage with Tom Jones & Graham Norton...)

Jonathan was his usual 'shock-jock' self trying to be like Britain's answer to Howard Stern.

One of the funniest things he said was that vegetarians were "lightweight and flimsy",

which might come as a surprise to Gorillas and Elephants, Olympic track star - the multiple 

gold medal winning - Carl Lewis, Martina Navratilova (champion tennis player with a

record breaking 167 singles titles and 178 doubles titles),

Dave Scott - six-time Ironman champion (which involves three endurance tests -

a 2.4 mile swim followed by 112 mile bike ride and finished off with a 26.2mile marathon

- one after the other on the same day... phew) and tri-athlete Brendan Frazier -

all of them being total vegetarians (none of them eats meat or dairy).

Sheese was requested for Vegan & Macrobiotic on the Big Brother show (UK)

Michael Jackson's older brother, Jermaine, and the A-Team's Dirk Benedict, both took part in

Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother. It is great to be able to encourage anyone who doesn't eat animals.

"Sheese is now Kosher"

Sheese is now Kosher Certified (7th April, 2006)
 
 We have had requests from many people in the UK, Europe, the USA and Israel for Sheese to

be Kosher certified. Although not Jewish ourselves, we do appreciate the fact that having a

particular seal of approval, such as Vegan, Vegetarian, Kosher, etc., means that people

can be confident that the ingredients in our products satisfy their dietary requirements.
 So good news, Sheese was given its official Kosher certification by the London Beth Din

on 7th April, 2006. Certificate no. 7075
